With the hot weather becoming a bit of a fixture, we thought we’d ask Manchester, how will you be spending your free time? With the school summer holidays starting it’s the time to be thinking about going to the seaside!
A well-known and popular sea-side destination in North West England for as long as I can remember is Blackpool. Still a hot spot for a day-out, Blackpool is a booming resort with one of the biggest populations in the UK. It hosts a series of attractions including Blackpool Tower and the Pleasure Beach, complete with a pier and donkey rides on the beach. With an endless supply of ‘fish n chips’ and rock confectionary, it is a traditional English destination.
Blackpool rose into a centre for tourism during the Industrial Revolution. The creation of a railway built in the 1840s connected Blackpool to the industrial areas of the North of England. The railways made travel much easier for those that would not normally afford holidays. It was easy and cheap for people to visit Blackpool, and this is still the case.
Today, Blackpool remains the most popular seaside resort in the UK. Show us your visits to Blackpool by sharing your pictures either on our Facebook page or via Twitter.
