On Wednesday 4th June Dr Jill Liddington came to Central Library to deliver a talk about her new book which was launched earlier this year. The book Vanishing for the Vote looks at the protest made by some of the Women’s Suffrage Movement who boycotted the 1911 census. The boycott took place in Manchester and in other areas across the country. This is something that is a vital piece of information for family historians who may be searching for their relatives on the 1911 census.

The talk was really informative and it was clear that some of the audience who were looking into their own family history had not considered the impact on the census of the boycott.
If you are keen on family history and are looking for some guidance you can visit the Manchester and Lancashire Family History Society help desk Monday to Friday 10-3pm. You can also access ancestry.com and many other useful online subscriptions for free in Manchester libraries if you want to start looking into your own family history.  For more information visit http://www.manchester.gov.uk/info/448/archives_and_local_history
